You are exactly right Carol... This is a great opportunity to young entrepreneurs and philanthropists alike... Humankind Water entered this year’s competition for that exact reason. This contest has provided us with exposure to a national audience and extended our reach far beyond the borders of Philadelphia, PA. However, we are more philanthropists than anything else and our supporters are mostly college students in their late teens and early 20's.

I’d like to ask you and your readers to vote for us for the remaining 12 days of the finals. You can vote for us twice each day: once by text, and a second time using facebook.

1)	Text 4829 to 383838
2)	Go to www.HumankindWater.org and click on the VOTE NOW button… then click on “Vote Using Facebook”
3)	You can sign up to receive a daily text message reminder to vote each day during the contest period from april 11 to april 24 by texting HKW to 50500.

You can watch the video on our homepage to learn more about our mission…. Did you know that 10,000 kids die *every day* from illnesses stemming from a systematic lack of clean drinking water in their communities. I president doesn’t make a dime off the sale of the water. We give 100% of our net profits to partner organizations who install wells and water treatment systems in 3rd world villages and communities throughout Haiti, Africa and South East Asia...

Thanks for your support... know that if we win, we will save thousands of lives.

It is a pretty fun thing to point out to youth that the real millionaires in America are small business owners. The concept of celebrity wealth is what most teens see as "success" in today's culture. However, the opportunities for youth, especially homeschoolers because of their time freedoms, are endless!

Besides, even if the micro business is not the primary career of the youth in the future, what looks better on a resume than "5 years small-business owner experience" from a 24 year old?

Looking forward to meeting you, Carol, at the IAHE Conference!

Deborah,

Very soon the PBS show Starting a Micro Business will be available for purchase, just not quite yet!

The PBS station that produced it (Western Reserve Public Media in Akron, OH) is working with a distributor to make the DVD available to other PBS stations and to the public for purchase.

I'll let you know when it is available on my website, Facebook page, and to my e-mail list.

Is there a way to purchase what aired on PBS? We missed it! Heard it was wonderful and just what my daughter with her own business should see as well as our home school group students who have or are thinking of having their own businesses. Please let me know. Thanks.

Christen,

I visited the CreateSpace Community and found a teenager asking the same question. It seems that CreateSpace has no problem with minors publishing books with them, but there may be a problem with how your teenager will bet paid.
https://www.createspace.com/en/community/message/51039

One father ran into problems. CreateSpace would only issue royalty payments to the father, not to the teenage son. It was very frustrating to the father. Read his story here:
https://www.createspace.com/en/community/message/69077

Create Space's policy states:

Minors and Purchasing
If you are under 18, you may only purchase items from us or our Members with the involvement of a parent or guardian.
