A micro business is a small and manageable business. It fits into your life. You can work as much as or little as you want, usually from home and when it’s convenient for you. you can also make good money. Sometimes better than working fast food or at the mall.
A micro business is an excellent business model for teenagers because micros are:
- Simple and fast to start up
- Have only one worker, you, the owner
- Are sole proprietorships (meaning only one owner)
- Need little or no start up money
- Are usually home based
- Low risk
- Manageable
- Let you learn a lot while earning money
You go into business to make money, but wouldn’t it be great if your business also had other benefits? What if you learned so much, you decided to launch another, larger business?
Phil was in high school when he discovered that he was good at buying small websites, revamping them and building up traffic and then reselling the site for a tidy profit. After a few years of running his business as a micro, Phil launched a larger website project using the profits from his micro. He learned how to hire web designers, advertise on the internet and even how to pay taxes on his profit! After only two years, he was offered $300,000 for his website.
What if you found your future career by running a micro business?
Meghan was a talented violinist and as a teenager she started giving violin lessons to children. She loved it and is pursuing a violin performance major in college on a full tuition scholarship.
