About

MicroBusinessForTeens.com is a real person, me, Carol Topp, CPA. I’m the author of the Micro Business for Teens series and operate an accounting practice (a micro business!) that specializes in tax preparation, small/micro business start-ups, and nonprofit accounting. I am speaker and presenter on money management, nonprofit management, business start ups and taxes with an emphasis on helping teenagers, families and causes I care about.

As a member of the Ohio Society of CPAs Speakers Bureau, I have presented numerous workshops on money management, business start up, taxes, and budgeting to various community, church and homeschool groups. I have also published several magazine articles in The Old Schoolhouse, Home Education, Homeschool Enrichment magazines and the National Association of Tax Professionals.

I live in Cincinnati, Ohio with my husband and two daughters. Both of my daughters started micro businesses as teenagers. Emily taught piano lessons and tutored younger students in math and writing. Sarah designed web sites and blogs and did some photography. They both made a lot of money babysitting. Through my daughters, accounting clients and homeschooling groups, I have met dozens of teenagers that started their own micro businesses. I was asked to write my book series, Micro Business for Teens to help these teenagers.

I’m also a work-at-home-mom (WAHM) with a micro business, my accounting practice. I started my business, Carol Topp, CPA, LLC in 2000 with 16 tax clients, a home office and no debt. I used the computer and printer we already owned. My only expenses were for software, paper and my CPA license.

In 2006, I launched HomeschoolCPA.com a website to help homeschool leaders and organizations.

And in 2008 I published my first book, Homeschool Co-ops: How to Start Them, Run Them and Not Burn Out. HomeschoolCo-opsCover

The business has grown steadily as my daughters grew up, but it never interfered with my ability to homeschool both of them though high school. You too can run a micro business and not lose your life.
